Carol: It was one of the greatest tragedies of European colonialism that emerged between 1885 and 1908 in the territory of Congo. Millions of people were enslaved and forced to work to extract rubber and other resources and people who did not obey those orders, were tortured or killed. What has shocked me the most has been the horrible things they could do to them if they didn't obey their orders.
