2º - Challenge 20

Wow we've arrived to 20 challenges!!

Let's go...

Challenge: “Would you join the Reformation?” ⛪🤔

Imagine you are living in Europe in the 16th century.
After hearing Martin Luther’s ideas, would you support the Reformation or remain loyal to the Catholic Church?

Write a short comment explaining:

  • your decision,
  • reasons for it,
  • and one possible consequence for your life.

You must write as if you were a real person from that time (a peasant, merchant, king, monk, student, etc.).

⚠️ Do not copy information from the internet — use what we learned in class and your own reasoning.

  1. I wouldn't support the Reformation, although I understand some of Luther's criticisms. I believe the Catholic Church has guided people for many years, and changing it could bring disorder and conflict among Christians. Furthermore, the Pope's authority is important because it keeps the faith united, as do priests and clergy.
I would also fear the consequences of separating from the Church, because if I remained faithful to it, I would likely retain the trust of those close to me and live more peacefully.

  3. I am a German student in the 16th century, and I support the ideas of Martin Luther. I believe the Church is too focused on money and power, especially by selling indulgences. I think people can read the Bible in their own language. Because of this, I can be expelled from my school, but I believe these changes are important.

  4. I am a student in Germany, and I support the Reformation. I think Martin Luther is right because the Church has too much power and asks for too much money. I don’t think people should pay to forgive their sins. I believe faith and prayer are more important. One consequence for my life could be getting in trouble with the Church or the emperor for having these ideas.

  5. I think I'd think like a Protestant, since Luther provided plenty of arguments. And with arguments like, "Many things the Bible says aren't followed by the Pope or priests." One consequence would surely be that they'd think I was crazy, or even want to kill me, so I wouldn't tell many people.
