4º - Challenge 1

 Hi there!

Challenges are arrived!

They are compulsory and they will have a reward...

This first one is about the discoveries in the Enlightenment period.

You have to choose 2, the more practical or useful (explain why), and the one you find the best (and why).

You have time until next week!

  1. The more practical or useful: In 1791, British inventor John Barber developed the gas turbine engine, a precursor to modern gas engines for CHP. Although John Barber's invention of the gas turbine could not be realized at first, he nevertheless provided an accurate description of the working principle. It was very useful for means of transport, and for the advancement of modern technology.

The one you find the best: Joseph and Étienne Montgolfier lived in Annonay (France), where they owned a paper mill and carried out the first experiments with balloons in 1782, inspired by the observation of the rise of smoke from chimneys. It is also a very useful means of transport, but I chose it because I find it very curious and fun.

  2. Carolina: For me, the most useful is the thermometer invented by Gabriel Farhenehit because without it many people would have died due to too much cold or too much heat.
And the most practical, for me is the toilet invented by Alexander Cummings because without it we would be throwing our feces out the window.
