  1. The Battle of Covadonga took place in the year 722.

It happened in Covadonga, in the region of Asturias, in northern Spain.

It was led by Pelayo, a Visigothic nobleman, who commanded the Asturians against the Muslim army led by Alqama.

The battle was a response to the Muslim invasion of the Iberian Peninsula and symbolized the beginning of Christian resistance and the subsequent Reconquista.

A popular anecdote (by Pelayo) tells that the Muslim army, when facing Pelayo's forces, was affected by heavy rain. In addition, legend holds that Pelayo received divine help, which motivated his men to fight bravely and achieve victory despite being numerically inferior.

The battle of Covandonga was from 718 to 722 (aproximately). It was in the Picos de Europa, in the actual Asturias. The sides in this battle were the Kingdom of Asturias, governed by Pelayo, and the Emirate of Córdoba, governed by Al-Qama and the bishop Oppas. After the Muslim invasion of the Iberian peninsula in 711, the most of the territory became to be of the muslim control. But in the asturian mountains, some resistance groups organized, and Pelayo, a noble visigoth, was selectionated as a lider of a little group in Covadonga. The Emirate of Córdoba send an army, governed by Al-Qama with the bishop Oppas, to fight. Oppas was a visigoth that pretetended to convince Pelayo surrender, but pelayo didn't do that. The muslims attacked, but the asturians knew the territory so they threw rocks and stones from the top of the mountains. The muslim army suffered big losses and the came back, but they were persecuted and massacred in it's journey. The christian cronics says that Al-Qama dead in the battle. Some leyends says that the victory of Pelayo was thaks for the Virgin of Covadonga, that was in a near cave and time after it became in a santuary. Some versions of this battle says that when the muslims were throwing arrows to the cave that Pelayo were, they rebboted like if a divin power was helpping him. The christian cronics says that Oppas was captured and ejecuted, but other versions says that he only desapears of the history. The battle of Covadonga was little in years, but its symbolic impact was enormous. Covadonga became in the fundational myth of the reconquer and Pelayo becames to be the first king of the Kingdom of Asturias. Today, the Santuary of Covadonga, with the virgin and the cave where it is, are an important center of peregin in Spain.

The Battle of Covadonga (722) was a clash between the Christians of the region of Asturias and the Muslims. It was a very important battle at the beginning of the Christian Reconquista. Pelayo, a Visigoth noble, gathered a small people and took refuge in the Asturian mountains. The Muslim governor (Munuza) sent an army to defeat Pelayo. The battle was in Covadonga. One of the myths told by the Christians was that the Virgin Mary helped the Christians by throwing stones at the Muslims. While some Muslims said that it was not such an important battle and that it was not important to win over a small group and that was why they lef

  5. The Battle of Covadonga was a historic confrontation that took place in 718 or 722 in a place near Cangas de Onís, Asturias. It marked a definitive moment in the history of the Iberian Peninsula. The clash took place between the Muslim troops of al-Andalus and the Asturians, who emerged victorious.
In a period when most of the Iberian Peninsula was under Muslim control, the Battle of Covadonga represented the beginning of Christian resistance. Led by Don Pelayo, a local nobleman, a small group of Christian rebels confronted and defeated a considerably larger Muslim force.
An anecdote they invented was that it is said that the cave of Covadonga was the place that King Pelayo used to take refuge and attack the troops. King Pelayo and the Christians would have carried with them some image of the Virgin, which they placed in the Cave to implore her protection, or perhaps they put it there after the victory obtained in gratitude.

  8. The Battle of Covadonga took place on 28 May 722 in Covadonga, a parish in Asturias, Spain. He faced the Christian army of Don Pelayo and the Muslim army of Al Qama. Because the Muslims wanted to conquer the Iberian Peninsula, Isa ibn Ahmand al-Raqi says that in the time of Anbasa Ibn Suhaim al-Qalbi, a wild ass called Belay [Pelayo] was built in the lands of Galicia. Since then, the Christians in Al-Andalus began to defend against the Muslims the lands that were still in their power, what they had not expected to achieve and the Cistina version is that the Virgin Mary was helping them to throw stones at the Muslims and so they defeated them.
